"Why is everyone NOT doing this?"

Me- "I can't believe we're going to carry a bag of fruit with us through the jungle to lure monkeys towards us."
Dad- "I can't believe everyone is NOT doing this!"

Besides having sweet company, the nice thing about having Dad here is that he's been to Singapore so many times previously that we can skip the typical touristy things and do even awesomer things! Like today, after a few hours of seeing the famous Henderson Waves Bridge (I'll post bridge pictures later), we decide to head up near the base in Sembawang in hopes to see monkeys. I have now seen a few monkeys while on the shuttle leaving work. However, I've never actually been outside and up close. We got to my usual shuttle stop and decided we'd just start walking until we hopefully spot monkeys....great idea when it's a bazillion degrees out and with the humidity its like a gazillion degrees. Well luckily about 200 meters down the road we spotted a monkey!!!! We didn't know if it would run so I immediately start taking pictures. I have one camera in movie mode and my other camera in photo mode. Dad is carrying the bag of fruit we snagged from the hotel (important fact: bag contents include 1 peach, 1 plum, 3 apples).

Monkey off in the distance, we just spotted it!
Well the little rascal doesn't run! So we got closer and closer! Despite my warning to Dad to not smile at the monkey because it will think you're showing fangs  (I practiced on the train ride- imagining I could see a monkey and not smile), Dad smiled at the monkey and the thing CHARGED him! We don't know if it's because of the bag of fruit or the fang/smile but it came blazing in. TOTAL panic- I did not know if the monkey was gonna jump him or snag the fruit bag. So he dropped the bag and the monkey stopped! It started taking bites of the fruit. Our novice mistake however was that our entire fruit supply was now sprawled out across the street so Dad went to retrieve our goods in case we saw more monkeys...and now for award winning real documentary footage....(turn your speakers up)
"It's gonna kill me"

For the record, this particular Sembawang monkey prefers peaches to plums and plums to apples.....

We watched it for a little while longer till it ran off into the jungle where we spotted a baby/small monkey off in the distance (no pictures unfortunately) and we left to hike back to the MRT with definitely the best adventure of this trip so far!!!

  2. Iowa just beat Michigan, Mom is dancing around celebrating, I said it's a good thing Dad's not here. Her reply: "He's having fun running around chasing monkeys, it's a win-win for everyone!"
