Prabu Gets Married!

I had the honor of going to a coworker's wedding tonight. Prabu was having an arranged marriage. About a dozen other coworkers had been invited prior to my arrival in Singapore but Prabu one day casually invited me and I didn't want to feel like a wedding crasher. Well today, he called me all nervous about this arrangement and double-checked if I was coming. I felt compelled- weddings are so fun!

It was gorgeous! For not having been around each other much before, they seemed comfortable together. We sat at our tables, the bridal party and groom came in, then the bride. They ran through their thing, cut their cake, made the toast and then we were treated to a delicious Indian food buffet. Butter chicken- so good! It seemed like an express wedding- beautiful but fast! And a wardrobe change for both! Not much different than a Western wedding.

As they were circling around to all the tables, my crew of 9 decided to leave after the bride and groom stopped by our table. They were all sharing a cab back to Sembawang but my hotel was only a 2 mile walk. So I stayed, at my large table solo. People kept looking at me smiling, they'd come over and translate some toasts, explain to me who was who, I felt very special. Prabu kept smiling and thanked me for staying. The whole group was unbelievably hospitable! I'm glad I got to see it all happen- for my gang missed the bride singing and the groom dancing for her! I guess she's a very good singer and he never heard her before. After singing, she made him dance for her. Cute and funny! During Prabu's thank-you toast I got personally thanked; I couldn't believe I got a shout-out during his speech!. On my way out the bride's father asked if I could come back for the big church wedding in April. I felt so special and glad to be there! It was lovely!! Best of luck for the new couple!! I had a happy stroll back to my hotel and overall wonderful Thursday night!
